Maid Service DIY Tips

Public Relations for a Local Maid Service
By Lance Winslow

Maid Service Businesses often have a ton of referral and new business coming in all the time and yet many of these companies get a bad rap because they are believed to hire illegal aliens. In fact many do and this is why people believe that they all do. But what can a Maid Service do to promote positive community goodwill?

Well let me suggest that they join a neighborhood mobile watch patrol or a business watch program. Why you ask? Well it makes them part of the solution rather than being perceived as part of the problem. Besides if we look at the Maid Service Business Model it actually makes perfect sense;

LOCAL MAID SERVICES: These small businesses drive around and have scheduled routes for each day of the week. This program is something they will enjoy doing and they will be a very positive influence on the group. Most of these small business owners are very street smart and they know what is going on around town, who is doing what, and can easily spot out suspicious behavior down the street. They will feel very happy to added to your group and have lots of contacts around town.

Certainly you can see why this makes such a good fit for such a business type. And realize also for good public relations sometimes you simply have to think outside the box. A neighborhood mobile watch is a good way for a company like this to expand its community goodwill and over come any negative connotations. So, please consider this in 2006.

10 Reasons to Keep Your Maid or Get One: Come Hell or High Water
By Tonza Borden

1. Security Deposit Refunded. With regular house cleaning, getting the refund when you move-out should not pose a problem. When it’s time to move, offer your maid a few Benjamin’s to complete the move-out cleaning tasks such as clean inside frig, oven and cabinets.

2. Come Home to a Clean House. Be it ever so humble or a castle in your own mind, it is home sweet home. But, is it as clean as you want it to be? Has dust reached critical mass? Managing a career, family and housekeeping can be complex and time-consuming. A professional, private individual house cleaner gives you ultimate long-term satisfaction so you can come home to a clean house, everyday.

3. Raise or Promotion. With a maid, you don’t have to worry about neglecting housecleaning; your home is always sparkling clean and fantastic. You now have more time to devote to getting a raise or promotion.

4. Stay Healthy. Regular housecleaning by a professional cleaner helps to remove unhealthy bacteria causing odors and soil. No matter how well organized you are, you need your house to be cleaner than it is normally.

5. MORE Time to Enjoy Life on Weekends. Spend your weekends relaxing from a stressful work week or enjoying family—not doing housecleaning.

6. Panic Attack vs. Performing a Task. Do you dread to scrub the tub or toilets? Do you have a problem with cleaning the house and doing the laundry? As for cleaning-related trauma that makes you feel bogged down, you will never have to face a task that is unpleasant when you hire an exceptional housecleaner.

7. Hate to Clean. Cleaning is not your “thing” and you can’t clean it the way the housecleaner cleans it. Regular housecleaning service can help you live a fulfilling life in a beautiful, livable space.

8. Untidy House is a Silent Enemy. Do you believe that if you stop having the maid clean your house that you will start cleaning it? Get real. If you avoid trying to clean the house or, feel that an untidy house hates you and is trying to defeat you, you need to get a housecleaner as soon as possible.

9. Take a Vacation. Some people cannot take a vacation because they have taken a vacation from cleaning their house. Your house will become dirtier the longer you put it off.

10. Be the Envy of Your Neighbors…. If you have a maid, your neighbors, friends and relatives, who do not have one, are jealous. Let’s face it. Having “hired help” to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of your home is not only necessary when you’re working 80 hours a week but, highly prestigious. Haters may snicker and snipe behind your back about why they think you don’t need one. But they are probably secretly wishing they had yours.

Tips and Steps Before Hiring a Professional Cleaner
By Jude Deguzman

Over those past years that I have been maintaining floors for commercial and residential properties, I still encounter some difficulties towards the relationship between our clients and our company in terms of their expectations. Good communication and an excellent explanation of services would greatly benefit both consumer and cleaners. I have gathered these tips and information for this purpose.

These are some steps that consumers have to know before hiring a professional cleaner.

Always remember to exercise your proper and due diligence before hiring a cleaner. Finding and maintaining a quality cleaning service provider begins with a good relationship, good communication, and a commitment to making the process work!

"PLEASE READ" - This Responsibility does not fall solely upon the cleaning provider. You share part of the responsibility too.

* Always ask if they are licensed and insured.
* Ask some detailed description of the service they will provide for you.
* Ask if you will be charged for any miscellaneous services, and will you be notified before they implement them?In this case there will be an understanding.Since there are a lot of "Bait and Switch Advertising".
*Get an approximate estimate for your project.
*What safety concerns do you have?
*What are your cleaning expectations?
*What details are most important to you?
*Are you concerned about the chemicals?
*Do you have any specific time of the day for job implementation?
*Ask about any special services, prices or cleaning specials.
*Have you received price quotes from a variety of cleaning companies?
*How many service providers will be coming to the home?
*How long will it take them to complete the service?
*Let them tell you as much as possible about themselves and their services. This way you can determine if they match your criteria.
*Trust is very important.
*The service providers will be in your home and at times unsupervised. At the beginning of the conversation and introduction you can gain a sense of the person or the company you are dealing with.

These tips will help the general consumer proper guidance about hiring and this article was created for the purpose of minimizing miscommunications or misunderstandings between the consumer and service provider.

How to Professionally Clean a Home
By Patti Page

You have decided you want to start a house cleaning business and clean homes professionally. Cleaning your own home and cleaning someone else's home professionally is totally different.

You have to be very thorough when cleaning professionally. Clients are paying you for a service and they expect and deserve top notch cleaning. It takes quite awhile to learn how to clean a home professionally.

The best thing to do when starting out is ask some friends and family members if you can clean their homes for free or at a discounted rate. I know the thought of cleaning for free is not appealing but you will not only gain much needed experience but you will get some good testimonials and references (which you will need when you obtain those first clients).

When first starting out don't worry about how long it takes to clean a home. Always do a thorough cleaning. After you have been cleaning for awhile you will become more efficient and will be able to do a through cleaning in a lot less time.

Make sure you have all the supplies and equipment needed before you start.

Supply List:

window cleaner

furniture polish

clorox soft scrub with bleach

anti-bacterial cleaner

sos pads

stainless steel cleaner

wood floor cleaner

bathroom cleaner

mops

broom/dustpan

supply caddy

dust mop

wood floor mop

grout brush

small toothbrush

cleaning cloths (terry and micro fiber cloths)

step ladder

Start at the top of the home and work your way down. This cleaning routine is for a one person cleaner just starting out. Of course the routine changes with more cleaners. When you have more cleaners in the home each person is responsible for different tasks.

Empty all trash and replace trash bags

Pick up/straighten/make beds if needed

Remove cobwebs, dust baseboards

Dust ceiling fans

Clean window sills and wipe down doors

Dust all furniture including bottoms and sides

Clean all glass surfaces including smudges on windows

Clean and disinfect bathrooms (dust light bulbs and wipe down cabinets)

Sweep, Vacuum, Mop all floors

Clean kitchen (including inside microwave, top of refrigerator)

Wipe down kitchen cabinet facings

Polish all glass surfaces and stainless steel in kitchen

For initial cleanings, include all the above plus the following:

Wet wash all baseboards and doors

Clean all light fixtures

Clean all wall hangings

Clean all knick-knacks

Clean vents

Remove books from book shelves and clean

For Move-in/Out Cleanings or Real Estate Cleaning you will need to add cleaning inside refrigerator/freezer, oven cleaning and window cleaning to your services. Also, for these types of cleanings you should clean inside all cabinets and drawers and inside closets.
